To participate in Study #1, you must be:
- 18 to 65 years old
- Diagnosed with MDD and your current episode of depression must be at least 8 weeks long, but no more than 3 years long
- Experiencing inadequate response to 1 to 3 previous courses of antidepressant medications in your current episode
- Willing to use acceptable methods of birth control to avoid pregnancy during the study and for up to 30 days after the last dose of study drug

To participate in Study #2 you must be:
- 18 to 70 years of age
- Diagnosed with MDD
- Failed at least 3 different anti-depressants to treat your MDD over your lifetime
- Currently taking anti-depressants for at least 4 weeks
